Since the very first radio
and television broadcasts, Commentators and Producers
have relied on written notes to keep track of
teams and players.
In recent years, the internet has
revolutionised our ability to research facts and
figures and become an invaluable tool. Some in
the industry have created databases or spreadsheets
to help organise their personal data. Some still
use handwritten notes or sticky labels, yet no
one has ever developed online software specifically
designed for Commentators, Broadcasters, Journalists
and Researchers
.but that's all about to
change!
Whilst millions of pounds are spent
on television and radio rights to cover 'the beautiful
game' around the world, those at the sharp end
have largely been left to fend for themselves
and there's never previously been a co-ordinated
effort to bring those in the industry together,
so SoccerCommentator.com aims to bridge that gap.
The project is the brainchild of
Steve Banyard, a Commentator with 20 years professional
experience in radio and television. Steve worked
in independent radio in the UK from 1985 to 1999,
transforming the sports output on radio stations
in Kent and South Yorkshire, before switching
to worldwide television in 1999 where he's worked
ever since. Steve has covered the game both at
national and international level, including the
2002 FIFA World Cup, working for companies like
TWI, HBS and Sky.
Working alongside Steve is Peter
Brown, a retired businessman with a lifelong passion
for Newcastle United. When Peter's family business
was sold off in 1985, he devoted his life to his
family and to teaching until retiring in 2005.
Peter provides the business acumen behind the
scenes.
The programming expert is Steve
Dolan, who specialises in the development of web-based
databases. Steve was employed by Cromwell Software
until 2005, when he set up his own company, Pixel
Concepts, and, working with Steve Banyard's designs,
he's implemented them with clarity and precision
to offer Members state-of-the-art software.
The aim of the project is to bring
Commentators and Broadcasters together and provide
them with online tools to make their jobs easier,
more efficient and more satisfying - to help everyone
become a better Commentator or more effective
Producer.
With your support, we hope
the project will reach all corners of the globe
and go from strength to strength. Thank you for
your interest.
